• Upsize the Pipework: We install a new condensate pipe with a diameter of at least 32mm. This wider pipe significantly reduces the risk of blockages, allowing the condensate water to flow away much faster.

• Ensure a Vertical Drop: Where possible, the pipe should fall vertically straight down. This helps water escape quickly, giving it less chance to pool and freeze.

• High-Quality Insulation: I personally use 13mm wall insulation foam lagging and secure it tightly with 2-inch waste clips. Waterproof, high-grade insulation is crucial for any external pipework in the Pulborough and Southwick areas.

• Optimal Termination: My preferred method is to terminate the condensate into a mini soakaway filled with lime chippings, where the water can safely disperse.

A correct installation like this not only stops the pipe freezing but also incorporates a clever air gap in the design. 

In the very unlikely event of an external blockage, this gap allows the condensate to overflow safely outside, rather than backing up into the boiler itself and causing a serious fault code. 

This protects your boiler from water damage and keeps you from a complete breakdown.
