Look after your system and it will look after the boiler!

The importance of a healthy central heating system should be high up on everyone’s agenda, a poor system could be costing you a fortune and ultimately end in a premature boiler replacement, that’s not cheap, but the good news is that looking after your system correctly is. 

The majority of central heating systems that I see in and around Horsham are basic poorly designed systems, most don’t have thermostatic radiator valves, a system bypass or a filter of any kind, almost none of them have adequate pipe insulation in the airing cupboard. People are not keeping up on their inhibitor levels and lots have really basic inefficient and ineffective controls.

What can be done is very simple. Just have:

TRVs fitted to every radiator apart from the one which is in the same room as the room thermostat.

A system automatic bypass fitted, normally in the airing cupboard.

A magnetic central heating filter like the fernox TF1 omega.

Pipe insulation fitted to all the hot pipes in the airing cupboard to conserve heat.

inhibitor added to your system to protect and improve the water quality within it.

Your controls upgraded to either a smart thermostat with optimisation and automation or a load compensating thermostatic if the boiler is compatible, or fit an outside weather compensation sensor if the boiler has the ability.

And if you have a combi boiler you should have a decent electrolytic scale reducer fitted on the cold water feed to the boiler as Crawley is in a very hard water area with a TDS test on average being over 250ppm TDS.
