Hydrogen Boilers are on the way.

WORCESTER BOSCH have recently revealed their hydrogen boiler, an new innovation that could completly revolutionise the decarbonisation of heating and hot water systems.

The boiler runs on hydrogen gas alone. Water is the only by-product of burning hydrogen gas, meaning that it is a carbon free fuel source.

Last year the UK committed to a target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050, a very bold target that requires new technology and industry changes across a vast number of sectors.

Steps have already been taken in transport, where electric and hybrid cars have become more common place and accessible.

But the heating and hot water industry, its proving much more difficult in removing carbon.

With a third of UK greenhouse gases coming from our homes, it's quite clear that the UK will not meet its climate change targets without a change in home heating systems technology and the fuel used.

The development of hydrogen-fired boilers will mean millions of existing heating systems in our homes can be saved, rather than the entire system needing to be replaced.

The research and development team at Worcester have worked tirelessly over the last three years to try and find a viable solution to decarbonising UK heating, and ensure they are able to provide hydrogen boilers to the Government Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy this year.

Worcester are at the forefront of this exciting new technology. The work they're doing, along with wider industry research and development, means that it is looking more and more likely that hydrogen gas can be a viable replacement fuel.

As opposed to natural gas, when hydrogen combusts all it makes is water H2O, meaning carbon is not released into the atmosphere. It can also be manufactured with little or no greenhouse gas emissions by electrolysing water using renewable energy.

Hydrogen boilers are ready for installation in trials that the Government have commissioned, however they will not be available for general sale for some years.

At Bleeco, we are gearing up for the future, and are already undertaking the relevant training to enable us to install these new boilers once the gas network is ready.
