Horsham and Adur Ideal Logic Boiler Faults: Andrew Tyler's Expert Fixes at Prime Boiler Care

Is Your Ideal Logic Boiler in Horsham District or Adur District Needing Expert TLC?

Hello, I’m Andrew Tyler from Prime Boiler Care, your trusted Gas Safe registered engineer based right here in Horsham, covering all your boiler repair and boiler servicing needs across the Horsham District and the wider Adur District area of West Sussex.

Over the last year, I’ve been called out to an increasing number of Ideal Logic boilers, and a few specific problems keep popping up.

If your boiler is starting to act up, you're not alone, and I know exactly what to look for.

The Problem with Ideal Logic Heat Only Boiler Sumps.

One of the most alarming faults I’ve encountered recently, particularly on Ideal Logic heat-only models, is a very specific hairline crack.

This crack is consistently located in the exact same spot on the plastic sump within the heat exchanger.

This suggests a potential manufacturing issue.

This tiny crack allows a slow drip of condensate water (a byproduct of combustion) to leak into the boiler.

This moisture can then escape from the boiler casing, potentially through a loose grommet, onto your property floor.

While it’s rare, I have seen water dripping from electrical components.

Out of the last ten I've dealt with, one instance led to a blown fuse after water tracked down a wire and into an electrical junction box.

The good news is that this is absolutely fixable.

It requires replacing the sump, a meticulous job that involves carefully removing several internal components.

It's not a quick fix, but it's an entirely manageable Ideal Logic boiler repair.

New Build Boiler Installations and Warranty Issues.

I frequently encounter these issues with Ideal Logic boilers installed in new-build homes.

This is often because these boilers are a favourite among new-build developers due to their ease of installation and commissioning.

They perform reliably for a couple of years, but then problems can start to surface.

The root cause of many of these issues often traces back to the initial system setup.

I rarely find that new-build heating systems include a crucial magnetic filter, and they often lack the correct levels of corrosion inhibitor.

This poor initial setup is detrimental to your boiler's long-term health.

If you own a new-build home and your boiler is over 2 years old, a complete strip-down and deep clean are likely essential.

This would involve a chemical power flush or clean, fitting an effective magnetic filter to protect your system moving forward, and a thorough boiler service including cleaning out the heat exchanger and condensate trap.

This full service is a vital investment in the longevity of your home's heating system.

Alarmingly, many new-build homeowners stop their annual boiler service around the two-year mark, likely coinciding with the end of the builder’s warranty.

Remember, consistent yearly boiler servicing is non-negotiable for maintaining your Ideal Logic boiler warranty.

If you've lapsed on your service, your boiler is definitely overdue for some expert boiler care.

Dealing with Scaled-Up Ideal Logic Combi Flow Turbines.

The second common issue concerns the Ideal Logic combi boilers.

I’m seeing many cases where the flow turbine is scaling up due to hard water.

The turbine acts as a switch, spinning when you turn on a hot tap to tell the boiler to fire up.

When it's covered in limescale, it can't spin, resulting in a frustrating loss of hot water.

Again, this is a highly fixable Ideal Logic boiler fault.

This is another issue pointing to a poor initial installation, specifically the absence of a scale reducer at the cold inlet.

While removing a scaled-up turbine requires a gentle approach—often with the help of a lubricant like WD-40—it can be replaced and the problem solved.

Crucially, to prevent this from happening again, I highly recommend installing an effective lime scale reducer on the boiler’s cold water feed.
