Filters such as the Adey Magnaclean, Spirotech SpiroTrap, or Fernox TF1 Omega are incredibly simple in their design—essentially a powerful magnet housed within a canister that is fitted to your heating system's return pipe.

Its job is to capture and collect magnetic debris, known as magnetite. 

Magnetite is the black sludge that forms as your system's components corrode. 

If left unchecked, this magnetic black sludge circulates and causes blockages and serious damage to vulnerable parts like the boiler's heat exchanger, system pumps, radiators, and associated pipework, leading to complete system failure. 

For a minimal investment, you can prevent this major, costly damage.

As your local West Sussex heating engineer, I personally fit the Adey Magnaclean Professional 2 on nearly all my installations and system upgrades, including for customers in Billingshurst, Cowfold, and Pulborough.

     This device simply clips onto your main incoming water pipe after the stopcock. It uses a signal to alter the structure of the limescale minerals, preventing them from sticking to surfaces. It requires no maintenance, no plumbing modifications, and its running cost is minimal, often quoted at around just £2 per year in electricity. This is a fantastic, non-chemical way to reduce limescale build-up throughout your home in Ashington, Rudgwick, and Warnham.

2. Localised Boiler Protection: For pinpoint protection, especially for the delicate plate heat exchanger in a combi boiler, an electrolytic scale reducer is a must-have. Brands are less important than the technology itself, but I often fit Salamander filters. These brass or nickel-plated units use the electrolytic principle to minimise the deposition of limescale directly at the boiler. Considering the vulnerability and cost of repairing a combi boiler heat exchanger in a hard water area, I believe it would be unwise not to fit this simple, maintenance-free device. This is vital protection for new and old combi boiler systems in Upper Beeding, Partridge Green, and Rusper.
